6 Things to Do to Prep for Your Open House

Friday, August 18, 2017

When trying to sell your home, your Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices First Realty agent will take care of all the details and guide you through every step of the way. However, there are a few extra things you can do before an open house to put it in its best light to help get it sold!

1. Empty Cluttered Closets

Potential buyers are always looking for extra space, and you can be sure that they’re going to peek into cabinets, closets and drawers. Make sure to clear out these spaces so that they don't look overstuffed.

2. Remove Personal Details

You want anyone who's visiting the open house to picture themselves living there. Removing family photos and momentos will help depersonalize the home so that it looks like somplace they might live.

3. Clean Up the Front Yard and Entryway

First impressions really do count! You want potential buyers to have a good feeling about your home from the moment they pull into the driveway. Make sure the grass is mowed, plants look neat, and there isn't random junk sitting around.

4. Remove Signs of Any Pets

As much as you love your pets, not everyone is a dog or cat person. Put away things like water and food bowls, litter boxes, and pet toys. It’s also a good idea to do a deep cleaning to get rid of any smells you might not notice.

5. Add Warm Touches

Even though you don't want the house to be too personal, you still want it to look warm and inviting. Think of things like fresh flowers in the spring or cozy throw blankets in the winter.

6. Relax!

Your Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices First Realty agent is a professional. He or she will handle the rest.
